What is a trade name?
Aspirin, ASA.
What is the class?
Platelet inhibitor
NSAID.
What is the MOA?
It is an NSAID with many pharmalogical uses.
Anti-platelet
Antipyretic
Anti-inflammatory
Analgesic.
Use it for platelet inhibiting properties. ASA inhibits the aggregation of platelets to the site. It does this by inhibiting the formation of thromboxane A2 irreversibly in the platelet. Lasts for 8 days.
What is the dosage?
160mg chewed PO if not previously administered for this episode to a total maximum of 160mg per 24hr period.
What are contraindications?
Hypersensitivity
Active GI bleed
Asthmatic with a past history of sensitivity to ASA/NSAIDs
Unable to follow commands.
What are indications?
Suspected ACS.
