Diphenhydramine Flashcards
What is the trade name?
Benadryl.
What is the class?
Anti-histamine.
What is the MOA?
H1 and H2 antagonist, blocking histamine release. By blocking the receptors, bronchoconstriction and capillary dilation is decreased.
Primarily works in the GI tract, blood vessels and respiratory tract.
What is the dosage?
Allergic reaction: 50mg PO (Elixir) or 1mg/kg IM/SIVP/IO to a single maximum dose of 50mg.
Anaphylaxis : 1mg/kg IM/SIVP/IO to a single dose of 50 MG.
Haloperidol - same
Metoclopramide - 25mg.
What are some indications?
Allergic reaction
Anaphylaxis
Extrapyrimidal symptoms secondary to the admin of haloperidol or metoclopramide.
What are some contraindications?
Hypersensitivity to diphenhydrinate or diphenhydramine.
