Potent vasodilator
Blocks aldosterone which prevents absorption of sodium = decrease preload
This inhibits angiotensin II to AT receptor so it dilates = decrease in after load

40 mg BID
Maximum 320 mg/day

Side effects
A
HA, insomnia, fatigue, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, abd pain, diarrhea

Absorption
A
Poorly a doped after po Rx, metabolized liver excreted feces & urine

Nursing interventions
A
Obtain Bp, apical pulse
If become hypotensive lay supine, elevate feet
Question for pregnancy, hx hepatic/renal function
Report chest pain or palpitations
