Dimensions Of Interaction Design Flashcards
What are the five dimensions
Words
Time
Behaviour
Visual representation
Physical objects/space
Visual representation
Imagery - extracts meaning in a split second
Icons - already have thousands in memory so users can easily interpret them
Typography, diagrams/graphics, colors, icons
Typography: can communicate tone and message and even intended audience
Appropriate ones are an immediate UX benefit
Words
- convey meaning and the nature of an interaction
- process words we know quicker and implicitly (avoid jargon and abbreviations)
- open to interpretation
Good interaction with words
- be familiar to intended user
- communicate information easily to user
- accurately represent the actions they think they do
- convey an appropriate tone for the setting
- be used consistently throughout the product
- acronyms must be familiar to users know
Physical objects/space
Tangible objects for controlling the environment
Keyboard
Mouse
Joystick
Touchscreen
Remote control
Buttons
Etc.
Good interaction with physical objects:
You don’t want them to be squashed, take up sufficient space.
Clean, minimalist, simple navigation for smooth interaction.
Universally recognisable objects, well placed. (Thumb position for touch screen mobile phones)
Time
: length the user spends interacting with the system. (The words, visuals, physical objects)
A way the user can measure progress
Behaviour
Actions, emotions, and reactions the user has while interacting with the system
