it consists of 4 lobes which are made up of thousands of lobules.
- lobules are the functional unit of the liver
oxygenated blood flows to the liver via
the hepatic artery
Venous blood flows away from the liver via
the hepatic portal vein
what are sinusoids?
vascular channels allowing exchange between blood and hepatocytes
what is Lipolysis
the break down of stored fats into fatty acid and glycerol
what is transamination
where amino acids are converted into new amino acids by transferring an amine group.
- this is important for synthesis of non-essential amino acids
