Q

What is the function of the mouth

A
  • Mechanical digestion
  • Teeth chew food the break it into smaller sized peices
  • amylaze in the mouth starts to digest the starch into maltose
  • Food is shaped into a bolus by tongue and then swallowed

Q

What is the function of the Small Intestine

A
  • first section is called duodenum where in pancreatic juice and the digested food comes out of the stomach and the pancreatic juice is also secreted from the pancreas
  • Ph of small intestine is slightly basic
  • The second section is called the Ileum this is where the absorption occurs as it is long and lined with villi

Q

What is the function of the pancreas

A
  • Produce all 3 types of enzymes: Protease, lipase and amylase
  • ## Secretes alkaline fluid into duodenum for digestion to raise ph fluid coming out of the liver

Q

Physical Digestion examples

A

It is mainly carried out by the chewing action of the teeth, the churning action of the stomach and the emulsification of fats by bile in the duodenum

15
Q

What is the function of the teeth

A
  • Used for chewing to increase the surface area, so that it can be exposed to juices and other digestive enzymes so food can get broken down more quickly

Q

Function of Incisors

A
  • chisel - shaped
  • Biting and cutting
17
Q

Function of Canines

A
  • To help tear, hold and bite
  • pointed
18
Q

Function of Premolars and molar

A

Large flat surfaces with ridges at the edges for chewing and grinding up food

19
Q

role of the stomach

A
  • muscles which contract to physically
  • squeeze and mix the food with the strong digestive juices that are present
  • stomach churning
20
Q

Epithelial tissue

A

tissue lines organs

21
Q

Biles two main roles

A
  • ## Alakine to neutralise the HCL which comes from the stomach
