Why is digestion important?
It allows our body to break down food into particles small enough for cells to absorb
Why did the the color change from purple to yellow in the starch lab?
We started with starch and amylase, and the starch made the solution purple. As iodine kept being added, the starch was broken down into glucose and made the solution yellow
Why did cooked liver have a very small reaction compared to raw liver?
It had been denatured, and so there were little to no enzymes to aid in the reaction
Why do our brains sometimes override the feeling of fullness?
We evolved to acquire as much energy as possible, and sometimes our brains don’t want to pass on an opportunity to acquire more energy
What makes heartburn occur?
Sphincter at base of esophagus allows stomach acid to go into esophagus
What temperature do enzymes generally work best at?
37 C (body temp)
Why does the stomach have a very acidic pH?
To kill bacteria and help immune system
