Digestion Flashcards
Migrating motor complexes
‘House keeping’. Moves indigestible products to the large intestine and prevents bacteria from moving into the ileum
Peristalsis
Wave like rhythmic contractions to help move food down the digestive tract
Segmentation
Bonney forward movement just moving and churning of food in the GI tract
Partial cells
Secrete HCl in the stomach
Goblet cells
Secrets mucus is in the epithelial lining of organs
Columnar epithelial cells
Line most organs with an absorptive function
Chief cells
Also known as zymgkenjcs cells and release pepsinofdn in the stomach
Mucous cells
In the entirety of the GI tract. Secrets mucus
G cells
Found in the stomach and duodenum. Secrets gastric
Acinar cells
Assist in digestion and productions/transport of enzymes on the pancreas
Cephalic phase
Sight smell and thought of food. A feedforward response. Salvation, secretion and increased motility in the stomach, intestine and accessory organs
Long
Gastric phase
Storage of food in the upper stomach. Secretion of HCl by parietal cells and protection by the mucus bicarbonate barrier of the gastric mucousa
Long or short
Intestinal phase
Series of negative and positive feedback loops. Secretion of bicarbonate to neutralize acid. Bike is released from the gallbladder and activation of pancreatic zymogens
Long or short
Leptin
Protein hormone secreted by adipocytes. Increased secretion when fat stores increase and rellenases under control of the OB gene in knock out mice
Gherlin
Released by the stomach to increase hunger
