diffusion Flashcards
what is diffusion
net movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to an area of
lower concentration
why does diffusion occur in liquids and gases
as the particles can move freely randomly
why is the cell membrane effective
as they hold the cell together whilst letting stuff in and out,
also substances can move in and out through diffusion, osmosis and active transport
3 ways particles can move in and out of cells
diffusion, osmosis and active transport
what is meant by selectively permeable cell membranes and example
that they have small holes which only very small molecules can pass through e.g glucose, water. oxygen, co2, amino acids
how can you investigate diffusion in a non living system
with the visking tubing experiment
