Differentiating Atoms, Molecules, and Ions (report part 1) Flashcards
-Basic building block of all matter
-Smallest piece of unit that maintains
a unique identity and property
-Made up of subatomic particles (protons, electrons, and neutrons)
Atom
-the simplest form of matter
Element
-elements with the same number of
protons but with different number of
neutrons
Isotopes
-made from the combination of two or more atoms bonded together by a strong force of interaction
-made up of atoms of different elements that are chemically bonded together. It represents the smallest unit of a compound.
Molecules
name the two kinds of ions
Anion, Cation
Ions:
-negatively charged particles
-number of electrons > number of protons
Anion
Ions:
-positively charged particles
-number of electrons < number of protons
Cation
