Sternberg Task
given a list of letters, one at a time, one per second (memory set) and then your shown a single letter (probe) your asked to respond yes/no if the probe was in the memory set
Stroop Task
a colour word is written in a different ink colour than the word and you’re asked to say the ink colour
it’s difficult to name the ink colour when the colour word your reading is different
Sentence Verification Task
given a sentence and asked to make a quick judgement
ex. robins are birds and penguins are bird (people are more slow to respond to the penguins)
Rating Task
asked to assign confidence ratings to yes/no responses
ex. how fruity is an apple: scale of 1-7
Digit Span Task
given a list of digits to recall and the list gets larger until your memory fails
Production Task
asked to produce as many objects from a category as you can
ex. write down as many fruits as you can
Paired Association Task (interferences)
asked to describe how word pairs are associated
ex. rainbow - colors: the colors make up the rainbow
DRM Procedure (intrusion errors)
read a list of words that have a common theme and ask participants to recall those words and often write down a critical lure
critical lure (DRM procedure)
a word highly related to other words in a list but doesn’t actually appear
Wason Card Problem
shown a set of 4 cards, each has a number on one side and a colour on the other
asked which card to turn over to test if a card shows an even number on one side, the colour blue is on the other
Word Stem Completion Task (implicit)
give people words that are partially complete and they are asked to complete the word by adding 1+ letters
Brown Peterson Task
given a trigram and right after your asked to count back from a three-digit number which interferes with recall
Dichotic Listening Task
presenting two different stimuli in both ears to reveal the dominant hemisphere depending on which one you pay attention to
Recognition Task (explicit)
yes/no task where people are asked if they saw the stimulus
Shadowing Task
a message is played in one ear while someone is talking in your other ear and you’re asked to repeat one of the messages out loud
