different muscle contractions Flashcards
1st type of muscle contraction
as the muscle contracts (less than 100% of resting length) crossbridge linkage formation is impaired due to too much overlap of the myofilaments
2nd type of muscle contraction
a muscles normal resting length allows for optimal overlap of the myofilaments, therefore maximising cross-bridge attachment
3rd type of muscle contraction
the muscle is stretched beyond its normal resting state (i.e greater than 100%) the reduced overlap of myofilaments causes a decrease in the number of available binding sites
what does force lenth relate to
force length relates directly to the mid range (resting length) of the a muscle the greatest force production can be generated due to the maximal/optimal overlap of actin and myosin
relate force velocity to anatomy
will contract his muscles slowly on a concentric contraction. this will allow time for the sarcomere/muscle to form maximum number of cross bridges
