What is the multi store model
Sensory memory ——> short term memory ——> long term memory

Sensory memory -
From environmental stimuli via 5 senses
- brian decides what you’re going to pay attention too anything it doesn’t pay attention too is lost
Duration- 1-2 secs
Capacity- large
Coding- 5 senses
Short term memory
-if nothing is done with the info eg written down it will be forgotten
- live memory - sub-vocal repatition in your head
Coding - acoustically (sound)
Duration- 30 secs
Capacity - 5-9 items
Long term memory
If info from STM is rehearsed it will go to LTM.
- to make neural pathways solid info has to be rehearsed
Capacity - unlimited
Duration- forever
Coding- somantically (understanding)
What does capacity, duration and coding mean
capacity - how much info the store can retain
duration. - how long Info is stored for
Coding- form in which the memory is retained

-the longer the counting the harder it was to recall

- did worse with acoustically similar words cause they got muddled.

Group 2 did better cause group one got muddled shows it’s coded semntically.
