Different LTM Flashcards
1
Q
Evaluation of multi store model
A
It’s too simplistic
2
Q
Who suggests there 3 types of LMT and what are they
A
Tulving
- semantic
- procedural
-episodic
3
Q
What is semantic memory
A
- knowledge of the world eg places , facts
-not time stamped (don’t know when or how u learnt it) - conscious effort to recall these facts
- explicit memory
Stored in Frontal lobe
4
Q
What is Episodic memory
A
-events in your life.
-time stamped know when they happened
- remember details, objects, people
- conscious effort to recall them (explicit memory)
Stored in frontal lobe
5
Q
What is procedural memory
A
- memory of skills (actions) eg riding a bike
- recall without conscious effort becomes automatic
-don’t know how to explain how we do it - implicit
Stored in motor cortex
6
Q
Supporting study
A
Clive wearing - hippocampus damaged during as he has herpes
Lost ability to form new LTM
- episodic memory damaged (can’t make new ones)
- remembered elements of semantic memory
- completely had procedural memory (piano)
- he can’t convert stm into ltm
> shows LTM isn’t a unitary store as the multi store model suggests - so it’s too simplistic
