what are the four internal factors that affect achievement?
racialised expectations(labelling, self forfilling prophecy and subcultures), institutional racism, enthnocentric curriculum and marketisation policies.
what did archer argue?
That teachers have 3 different identities they label students such as;ideal pupil- white, mc and naturally gifted
pathologised pupils- typically asian and deserving poor having to work hard
demonised pupil-the black and white wc seen as unintellegent
what did gilborn and youdell find about black pupils?
they are believed to be violent and to challenge authority so they are put into low sets and lower exams compared to white students. which can lead to low self esteem

not everyone conforms to thses labels as he saw in the two black girls who were given a negative label and worked hard to prove the teacher wrong

white pupils were twice as more likely than carribean pulils to get identified as gifted and talented which can lower the self esteem of EMGs

school places low priority on dealing with racism and how its embedded in the administration in turn not offering the same quality and oppotunity for ethnic minorities which can disadvantage them in education

it may impact educational experience but not performance as ethnic minorities like chinease and indian achieve the highest in education

ethnocentric and only portraying only british values e.g in the teaching of histroy

that the curriclum it is specifically british only and teaches the culture of the host cummunity like the removal of all non- british authors

how it gives scope to select pupils which disadvantages ethnic minorities like black puplils who get silt sifted into deprived schools while white and chinease get cream skimmed into better schools.

chubb and moe says how competition and marketisation benefits all as it forces all schools to raise there standards of teaching
