A

Child of a type 2 diabetic has 1/3 chance of getting it. Genetic defects of the B-cell can result.

What is gestational diabetes?

A

insuling resistance due to pregnancy factors such as presence of ‘human placental lactogen’ that interferes with susceptible insulin receptors, increases risk of type 2 DM later in life and can increase risk of childhood obesity and also foetal probs like stillbirth

What is prediabetes?

A

impaired glucose tolerance, Prediabetes is the state in which some but not all of the diagnostic criteria for diabetes are met. It is often described as the “gray area” between normal blood sugar and diabetic levels. Can take steps to stop progession.
