A group of metabolic diseases characterised by chronic hyperglycemia due to defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both.

Characterised by autoimmune destruction of pancreatic β-cells leading to absolute insulin deficiency.

Results from a combination of insulin resistance and β-cell dysfunction. Strongly associated with obesity and lifestyle factors

Adults

Hyperglycemia at onset or during pregnancy
