diabete medication Flashcards
SGLT2 inhibitor MOA
Inhibit sodium-glucose cotransporter—inhibit the reabsorption of glucose (proximal tubule)
SGLIT2 inhibitor end with
gliflozin
Advantages of SGLT2 inhibitor
low risk of hypoglycaemia
weight loss
BP reduction
cardiovasular and renal benefit
Drawbacks of SGLT2 inhibitor
euglycaemic DKA (esp when fasting, hence avoid before surgery)
need to have a normal kidney function ir order for it to work (CrCl> 45)
dehydration
genital infection
Alphaglucosidase MOA
inhibit the alpha glucosidase in the border of the small intestine
delay the CHO absorption
Alphaglucosidase example
Alphaglucosidase advantages
it has a low risk of hypoglycaemia (however, be aware that it is usually a add-on therapy, hence, may still at risk of hypoglycaemia/ when this happen—use glucose to correc it)
Alphaglucosidase drawbacks
GI side effect
Have to chew this tablet w the meal
Thiazolieinediones MOA
PPAR–gamma agonist
increase sensitivity of the insulin
Thiazolidinediones end with
glitazone
Advantages of thiazolidinediones
Drawbacks of thiazolidinediones
