Optical Mark Reader
Reads marks on paper in a particular order
Eg BRGS exam marking

Allows software to take more complex inputs with the press of one button
Eg found in McDonalds
OCR
Optical Character Reader
Scanning device that takes text from writing and produces a computer document so it can be edited
MICR
Magnetic Ink Character Recognition
Found in cheque books (numbers are magnetic ink), recognises magnetic patterns on a piece of paper
RFID
Radio Frequency Identification
Sends radio waves (contains ID) and is sensed by receivers, logs where your tag is
Eg to see what’s gone in and out of somewhere
Biometric Scanner
Finger Print Scanner will take away money from account due to your finger print. Means you don’t have to carry money around at risk
Smart Card Reader
Put card in and it reads it’s data and gives you options
