Motherboard
All electrical components in a computer are attaches to this - without it the PC wouldn’t run
ROM
Read Only Memory
Contains boot up instructions that are built in during manufacture, therefore it’s read only and can’t be modified
RAM
Random Access Memory
Used when the computer is operating, TEMPORARY short term memory used to do processes and is cleared when the computer is shut down
CPU
Central Processing Unit
Carries out main processing functions, dual/quad core processors make the computer work quicker
Graphics card
An expansion card which generates a feed of output images to display
Sound Card
An expansion that facilitates the input and out out of audio signals (basically allows it to play audio)
Hard Drive
Stores all data
Long term memory
PERMANENT
Optical Drive
Let’s CDs/DVDs/blu-Rays play on the computer
USB
Universal Serial Port
Allows you to transfer files from one device to another through the USB port
Touch Screen
This is an electronic visual display which can be controlled by simple/multi-touch gestures by touching the screen with your fingers
