Trust vs Mistrust
• infancy (0-1 years)
• learns to trust others and have basic confidence in the future
• failed: feeling of worthlessness and mistrust if the world

Autonomy vs Shame
• 18 months to 3 years
• builds self esteem and autonomy
• failed: feelings of shame and doubt of capabilities, low self esteem

Initiative vs Guilt
• 3-5 years
• copies adults and creating play situations
• failed: if scolded for play, feels guilt for natural desires and goals

Industry vs Inferiority
• 6-12 years
• learning new skills and developing a sense of industry/work
• failed: feeling inferior to peers, inadequacy

Identity vs Role Confusion
• 12-20 years
• life is more complex, finding out own identity, developing values
• failed: role confusion and frustration

• seeking companionship and love, deep connections (only after a reasonable sense of identity exists)
• failed: isolation and distance from others

Generativity vs Stagnation
• 35-55 years
• self worth coming from the care of others and use to society
• failed: self indulgence, focused on self

Integrity vs Despair
• 55-Death
• fulfillment with a sense of life meaning
• failed: despair at failures in life and regrets of experiences
