Description of various nervous systems Flashcards
what is efferent division of the PNS
Takes the signals of the CNS out to the body. Effectors includes somatic and autonomic nervous system
describe the somatic nervous system of the efferent division
conscious control–> we are aware; controls skeletal muscle
ex) involves sensory input from the skeletal muscles and that is something that keeps us standing
describe the neuron chain of the somatic system
input sent to CNS
processed in the brain
motor neurons exit the brain and effect skeletal muscle
can be fast like reflex arc
axons can be outside of CNS
describe the autonomic system in the efferent division of the PNS
no conscious control; controls smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, and glands
parasympathetic
sympathetic
enteric
must have homeostasis between all of these
both afferent and efferent nervous system
cell bodies in the somatic nervous system
cell bodies(cluster called nuclei) in CNS are in brain or spinal cord
no ganglion in somatic nervous system
cell bodies in autonomic nervous system
cluster called ganglia
cell bodies outside of the CNS
describe axons in the autonomic nervous system
axons are 2 neuron chain
preglanglionic has lightly myellinated axons and release Ach
ganglionic neuron extends to an effector organ(stimulatory or inhibitory)
describe the sympathetic nervous system
part of the autonomic nervous system
“fight or flight”
ergotropic response—> movement related and energy spent
describe parasympathetic nervous system part of the autonomic nervous system
“rest and digest”
trophotropic response–> leading to growth
enteric nervous system
part of the autonomic system and independent but influenced by para and sympathetic
GUT feelings
parasympathetic mostly GI
sympathetic mostly inhibitory
more complex neurons; pockets of neuroendocrine cells
non adrenergic and non cholinergic
