Describe types of neurogenic bladder and overactive bladder syndrome Flashcards
1
Q
Neurogenic bladder
A
Functional obstruction caused by an interruption of the nerve supply to the bladder which negatively impacts the functionality of the bladder
2
Q
Neurogenic bladder: dyssynergia
A
- Loss of coordinated neuromuscular contraction
- Typically when bladder is full, the weight of the urine tells sensors need to urine
- These sensors are not working correctly
3
Q
Neurogenic bladder: dyssynergia - Detrusor hyperreflexia-overactive, also Overactive bladder syndrome (OBS)
A
- frequency, urgency, nocturia
- Bladder thinks it is full and has a sense of urgency and frequency and nocturia [frequent urination at night]
- Have to go to the bathroom all the time
4
Q
Neurogenic bladder: dyssynergia - Detrusor areflex-underactive
A
- Bladder doesn’t recognize it is full so bladder is distended
- Results in abdominal distention
- Incontinence from bladder not being to hold it more and from incomplete emptying
5
Q
Bladder wall loses some of its functionality and elasticity
A
can’t give a good push and empty contents
