weight loss, insomnia, hypersomnia, decreased or hyperactive motor activity, fatigue, loss of energy, feelings of worthlisness, excessive inappropriate guilt, diminished ability to think or concentrate, recurrent thoughts of death, suicide ideation or attempt

Why is it so important to screen for depression?
Not only do we want our patients to be happy but also depression can lead to further reduction in functional capacity and increase the risk of developing new illnesses
What are 3 ways patients can manage depression?
Pharmacotherapy- be aware that patients on anti-depressants may experience hypotensive side effects
Psychotherapy-aging adults are less likely to seek this option
Exercise and physical activity- reduces depressive symptoms and improves function
