Q

How would you name/code tooth number 8?

A

Permanent (dentition) maxillary (arch) right (quadrant) central (type) incisor (class)

17
Q

List the 6 sextants

A

-Upper right posterior
-Maxillary anterior
-Upper left posterior
-Lower right posterior
-Mandibular anterior
-Lower left posterior

18
Q

Explain the Universal System of numbering

A

The numbering system for teeth that is primarily used in the US. Starting at the upper right third molar, then dropping down to mandibular left third molar and continuing to mandibular right third molar.
Permanent: numbered 1-32
Primary: lettered A-T

19
Q

Explain Palmer Notation numbering system

A

Primarily used in the UK and in orthodontics, palmer notation uses symbols and numbers with the quadrant bracket symboled with a “half box”. Starting at the central incisor, permanent teeth are numbered 1-8. Primary are lettered A-E

20
Q

Explaining the Federation Dentaire Internationale (FDI) System

A

Primarily used in countries across Europe, the FDI system uses 2 digit numbers, with the first number representing the quadrant (permanent 1-4, primary 5-8 starting at maxillary right quadrant) and the second number representing the tooth (permanent 1-8, primary 1-5, starting at the central incisor of that quadrant)
