Dental Materials Flashcards
Liners,bases, and temp. Fillings.
Calcium hydroxide - promotes reparative dentin growth (tertiary)
Zinc oxide and eugenol - sedative temporary filling when mixed to a putty like consistency because it has a sedative effect on the pulp.
Glass ionomer - can be used as a liner under any type of restoration. Excellent benefits of high strength glass ionomer: it helps prevent secondary decay by the continues release of fluoride. It provides a protective insulation to the pulp. It has low solubility in saliva.
Zinc phosphate
To help minimize irritationto the pulp, zinc phosphate cement is properly mixed on a cool glass slab by adding small increments of powder to the liquid and using a large area and a wide sweeping motion with long strokes to mix the powder into the liquid. Wrist movement.
