35 yrs after on 1867
what happened in the second act?
early 1860- 1.43 million could vote out of total of 30 million
1866- all voters men aged over 21
right to vote still based off your property qualifications
1867- conservative government introduced new parliament acts
1867- increased electorate (all the people in an area or country who are entitled to vote ) by 2.5 million.
gave right to ppl who rent property rather than owning it
what happened in the third act:
17 yrs later: 1884-third reform act
widely recognised that voters deserved same political rights as the boroughs.
2 in 3 man able to vote- 18 percent
multiple votes permitted
created a uniform franchise between both country and boroughs
franchise-
right graven by one business to another that it can sell goods using its name
eg mcdonalds give permission to a guy called john to make another mcdonalds located somewhere else but with the same food as mcdonalds
