delusional disorder
patients have a crystallized, often single, delusion. they do not have hallucinations or thought disorders like schizophrenia. they often can have normal lives. delusions cannot be substance induced, medical condition driven, or be part of any other mental disorder
Capgras delusion
patient feels someone has been replaced by an imposter
Fregoli delusion
pation holds a belief that different people are in fact a single person who changes appearance or is in disguise. lesions in the temporal lobe and fusiform gyrus may cause this.
psychopathic cannibalism
antisocial personality, psychopathy, sociopathy, with delusions
folie a deux / shared delusion disorder
syndrome in which symptoms of a delusional belief are transmitted from one individual to another. the folie imposee gives the delusion to the folie simultanee
cotard’s delusion
delusion that one is dead, do not exist, or has missing organs. seen more in depression/schizophrenia
morgellons / delusional parasitosis
somatic delusion/paranoid delusion. patient believes they are infested, can see and often feel parasites in or on them
Erotomanic delusions
affected person believes that another person, usually a stranger or famous person, is in love with them. often happens during psychosis in ppl with schizophrenia, delusional disorder, or bipolar mania.
treatment
assumption there is too much mesolimbic dopamine activity. antipsychotics are sometimes effective. psychotherapy may help patients cope, lower symptoms. be nice and understanding to these people
