deionised VS distilled water - IOE Notes Flashcards
What are the 3 advantages of hardwater?
- Tastes better
- Contains calcium, which is good for bones and teeth
- Good for the brewing industry (better beer!) and tanning leather
What are the 3 disadvantages of hardwater?
- ‘dirty’ looking scum produced with soap
- wastes soap
- produces ‘scale’ that can block pipes and make the heating elements useless (blocks pipes, leaves scale on kettles and boilers)
What is the purest form of water and why?
distilled water is the purest form of water as all dissolved and suspended solids as well as dissolved gases have been removed from the water
Which is purer, distilled or deionised water?
distilled water.
What does deionised water contain that distilled water does not?
Deionised water contains dissolved gases as well as any non-ionic material (organic material) that may be dissolved in the water
What do deionised water and distilled water have in common?
they both contain no ions
How does deionised water differ from distilled water?
deionised:
has dissolved gases and organic material
distilled:
no dissolved gases and organic material
