Pratique employée par les contrôleurs pour espacer les aéronefs évoluant dans des conditions météorologiques de vol à vue (VMC).

A. VFR - Le contrôleur, après avoir établi l’existence possible d’un conflit, émet des autorisations, instructions ou renseignements, selon le cas, pour aider les aéronefs à établir le contact visuel entre eux, ou pour aider les aéronefs à éviter d’autres aéronefs.

B. IFR or CVFR - Une fois qu’un pilote a rapporté avoir le trafic en vue, le contrôleur émet des autorisations et donne instruction au pilote d’assurer son propre espacement, selon le cas, pour éviter ou suivre le trafic.

• A. VFR — The controller having determined that a potential conflict exists, issues clearances, instructions or information, as necessary in order to either aid aircraft in establishing visual contact with each other or to assist aircraft in avoiding other aircraft.*
• B. IFR or CVFR — Following a pilot’s report that the traffic is in sight, the controller issues the clearance and instructs the aircraft to provide its own separation by manoeuvring the aircraft as necessary to avoid or follow the traffic.*

Espace aérien de dimensions définies à l’intérieur de l’espace aérien contrôlé, réservé à l’usage d’un organisme civil ou militaire pendant une période spécifiée. Une réservation d’altitude peut être limitée à une région fixe (stationnaire) ou se déplacer par rapport aux aéronefs qui y évoluent (mobile).

An airspace of defined dimensions within controlled airspace, reserved for the use of a civil or military agency during a specified period. An altitude reservation may be confined to a fixed area (stationary) or moving in relation to the aircraft that operate within it (moving).

VOL EN FORMATION

Vol de plusieurs aéronefs qui, après accord préalable, évoluent normalement comme un seul aéronef en matière de navigation et de compte rendu de position. Les vols en formation peuvent être indiqués dans les plans de vol IFR individuels ou être contenus dans une réservation d’altitude. Les formations peuvent être standard ou non standard.

A. FORMATION STANDARD – Formation telle que :

le chef de la formation évoluera à l’altitude assignée et les autres aéronefs de la formation se trouveront à moins de 100 pieds verticalement de l’altitude du chef de la formation;

la formation occupera un espace aérien dont la largeur frontale maximale ne dépassera pas 1 NM; et

l’espacement longitudinal maximal entre le premier et le dernier aéronef de la formation ne dépassera pas 1 NM.

B. FORMATION NON-STANDARD – Formation avec plans de vol individuels hors des réservations d’altitudes pour laquelle, après l’accord préalable du contrôle de la circulation aérienne, le chef de la formation a demandé et le contrôle a approuvé des dimensions autres que les dimensions standard.

• More than one aircraft which, by prior arrangement between the pilots, normally operate as a single aircraft with regard to navigation and position reporting. Formation flights may be identified on individual IFR flight plans or may be contained within an ALTRV. As circumstances require, they may be:*
• A. Standard formation — One in which:*
• 1. the formation leader will operate at the assigned altitude and the other formation aircraft will be within one hundred feet vertically of the altitude of the formation leader;*
• 2. the formation will occupy a maximum frontal width of one NM; and*
• 3. the formation will have a maximum longitudinal spacing of one NM between the first and the last aircraft.*
• B. Non-standard formation — An individual flight plan formation, whereby through prior arrangement with ATC, the flight leader has requested and ATC has approved other than standard formation dimensions.*
