Definitions and concepts Exam 2 Flashcards
Scaption
movements of the shoulder joint that occur in the scapular plane rather than a sagittal or frontal plane
Scaption = scapular plane
shoulder Girdle joints
sternoclavicular, acromioclavicular, and scapulothoracic joint
Scapular tilt
rotation of the inferior angle posteriorly with respect to superior angle
Movement of bottom inwards, top outwards (together)
Inferior angle goes posteriorly
Scapular winging
movement of the medial borders of the scapular posteriorly away from the thoracic cage.
Scapulohumeral rhythm
2 degrees of shoulder abduction accompanied by 1-degree upward rotation. After 3o degrees of abduction by the humerus
5 muscles are primarily responsible for moving the shoulder girdle
trapezius, levator scapula, rhomboids, serratus anterior and pec minor
Circumduction
combination of all shoulder movements that describes the arc of movement possible at the shoulder
Normal end feel for all shoulder movements
firm
two articulations of the elbow
humeroulnar and humeroradial
4 joints of the elbow complex
humeroulnar, humeroradial, proximal radioulnar and distal radioulnar
Carrying angle
describes the angle formed by the arm and forearm when in anatomical positions (2 lines)
Lateral epicondylitis
Tennis elbow
Medial epicondylitis
Golfers elbow
Supracondylar fracture
occurs when a person falls on an outstretched arm or hand
Supra = super oustrectched or super fall
what two structures only attach to the wrist
flexor carpi ulnaris and palmaris longus
Calles fracture
transverse fracture of the distal radius, posterior displacement of the distal fragment
Smiths fracture
fracture at the same site as calles, but the distal fragment is displaced anteriorly
Opposite displacement from calles fracture
wrist sprains
falls on outstretched arm
Prehension
positioning of the thumb and fingers to grasp, seize, hold or manipulate objects
Opposition
movements in which the tips of the thumb and little finger move toward one another using a combination of flexion and abduction
Reposition
the movement which the tips of the thumb and little finger move away from each other using extension and adduction
Keystone
part of the arch that is the apex
End feel for MCP and IP joints
firm
