Agentic state
When people act as an agent for authority doing what their job requires not by choice but by duty and therefore taking no responsibility for the consequences
autonomous state
People act as free to make their own choices and control their own actions therefore take responsibility for the consequences
Moral strain
A negative feeling caused by doing something we believe to be wrong but feel compelled to do because of the social siuation
In Group
A group which a person thinks they are part of
Out Group
A group that a person thinks they are not a part of
Social catogorisation
When we categorize ourselves and others as members of certain social groups , exaggerating the similarities between members of the in group and the differences between the out group
Social identification
When individuals take on aspects of the groups identity such as adopting a groups norms and behavior such as wearing a particular rugby shirt.
Social comparison
When members of the in group make unfair and negative comparisons between the out group to make them seem superior
Obedience
Complying to the demands of others , particularly those in positions of authority
Prejudice
An attitude towards members of a certain group based on their membership of that group
discrimination
a behavioral expression of prejudice
Ethnocentric
when the study focuses on one particular ethnicity
