defence mechanisms Flashcards
What are some defences for pathogens
Cell mediated involving T lymphocytes
Hum oral responses involving B lymphocytes
What are your cells and foreign cell in your body called
Your cells = self
Foreign cells = non- self
How do cells recognise there self
It’s because they have a specific 3D shape
For example
Pathogens Luke HIV
non-self material
Toxins
Abnormal body cells like cancers
How lymphocytes Recognise cells belong to the body
There are 10 million difrenr type of lymphocytes present at any time all capable recognising a difrent chemical shape .
In the fetus these lymphocytes are constantly colliding with cells
Infection in the fetus is rare because it is protected from the outside world by mother
Lymphocytes will therefore collies with own Material (self) exclusively inside the body
Some of the lymphocytes will have receptors that exactly fit those of the body’s own cells
These lymphocytes either die or are suppressed
In adult’s lymphocytes produced in the bone marrow initially only encounter self antigens
No clones of these anti lymphocytes will appear in the blood leaning only those that might respond to non self antigens .
