Deck 5 Muscular System-Responses Flashcards
Names all 6 responses of the muscular system
Increased blood supply/ increased muscle temperature/ increased muscle pliability/ lactic acid accumulation/ micro tears/ DOMS
Define vasodilation and state which response it is associated with
Vasodilation- the widening of blood vessels (internal lumen) to allow more blood flow. INCREASED BLOOD SUPPLY.
What fuels are broken down that creates heat as a by-product (increased muscle temperature)
Carbohydrates and fats.
Increasing muscle temperature also increases muscle………………. This decrease the chance of ………… and increase the ranges of movements at joints.
Increasing muscle temperature also increases muscle PLIABILITY. This decrease the chance of INJURY/ STRAINS and increase the ranges of movements at joints.
Lactic acid is a waste product of what type of exercise?
Anaerobic exercise.
Decsribe the negative effects of a lactate accumulation.
This build up, results in rapid fatigue.
It also impedes muscle contractions.
TRUE or FALSE
Micro tears are a mucular response to resistance/weight training.
TRUE
Describe what happens after micro tears occur.
Training improvements are made when we rest; allowing repair.
After micro tears repair the muscles become a little stronger.
Protein will support the repair.
What does DOMS stand for?
Delayed onset of muscle soreness
State 3 characteristics of DOMS.
DOMs is the pain felt in the muscle 24-48 hours after exercise.
DOMs is caused by micro-tears.
They occur if you’re not accustomed to high intensity exercise.
DOMs is associated with eccentric contractions.
