Deck 2 Parts of the heart Flashcards
State 3 characteristics of the Atria
Upper chambers of the heart.
They receive blood returning to your
Returning from the body or lungs.
Right receives deoxygenated from vena cava
Left receives oxygenated from left and right pulmonary veins
State 3 characteristics of the ventricles
Pumping chambers of the heart.
Thicker walls than atria.
They pump blood at a higher pressure (travel distance).
They pump blood against the force of gravity.
Left ventricle: Most muscular.
Right ventricle: pumps to lungs (pulmonary circulation).
Left ventricle: Pumps to body (systemic circulation).
State 2 characteristics of the Tricuspid Valve
1 of 4 valves
Situated between right atrium & right ventricle
Prevents blood flowing backwards
State 2 characteristics of the Bicuspid Valve
1 of 4 valves
Situated between left atrium & left ventricle
Allows blood to flow in correct direction
State 2 characteristics of the Aortic Semi-lunar Valve
1 of 4 valves
Situated between left ventricle and aorta
Prevents backflow of blood
State 2 characteristics of the Polmonary Semi-lunar Valve
1 of 4 valves
Situated between right ventricle and pulmonary artery.
