Excellent way to determine ideal order quantity
All inventory items are listed in descending order, from highest annual dollar usage to lowest
“A” items are given highest priority when determining where inventory control measures might be most effective.
ABC Analysis
Used for the movement of material over short distances; high volume of goods can be moved but location basically inflexible
Conveyers
Exchange of one item for another, frequently because of change in protocol, change in patient mixes, morbidity or for compatibility with new equipment
Conversions
Distribution device that is generally self guided units that move from place to place and can deliver a variety of goods and records
Robots
The actual physical or manual counting of supplies; Key step in assessing inventory control
Physical Inventory
In this program, distributors deliver most supplies in low unit of measure typically in each, except very low dollar, smaller supplies. Vendor assumes responsibility to hold inventory; provides one-time savings in inventory reduction
Stockless Distribution System
Designed to facilitate providing surgical products & supplies; Typically used in O.R., Labor & Delivery; usually prepared in the evening & stocked according to prepared lists of items & physician preferences for surgical procedures.
Case Cart System
Serviced & replenished on pre-determined schedule with quantity not exceeded the established level
Periodic Automatic Replenishment (PAR) Level
System in which a supply is delivered to the end user based on demand.
Random Request System
This method reflects the quantity expected is visible on the receiving document or computer screen; rarely have miscounts due to unit of issues & count discrepancies are easily noted & rechecked
Open Receiving
Items placed in clinic or nursing unit storage area for immediate specialized use; often the product of JIT system
Prime Items
Items typically less glamorous commodities used by customers; often brought in bulk & subject to less stringent environment or security constraints
