Stages of Grief
1) Shock–>cannot believe it is occurring
2) Denial–>will look for evidence it is not true
3) Anger–>recognize things are different
4)Bargaining–>telling their story, struggling to find meaning
5)Depression –> “I dont care anymore”
6) Acceptance
4 domains of end of life occupation
1) Continuing life: doing things that matter, tx wheelchair fit to attend life events such as wedding/graduation
2)Preparation for death: getting everything in order, communicating final wishes
3) waiting: “takes too long to die” instruct caregivers on positions of comfort in bed/turning
4)death/after death: assisting caregivers in honoring loved one
Hospice
increased QOL for those with terminal conditions
less than 6 months to live
Focus symptom mgmt for comfort
Palliative Care

Can receive at any point in D/S process, may have curative treatment in attempt to prolong life
