What is CHARGE syndrome?
Coloboma, heart defects, atresia choanae (also known as choanal atresia), growth retardation, genital abnormalities, and ear abnormalities.
What is Down syndrome?
Trisomy 21, associated with intellectual disability, weak muscle tone.
What is Stickler syndrome?
Hereditary conditions of eye abnormalities, joint problems, hearing loss, facial characteristics.
What is Dandy-walker syndrome?
Brain developmental condition, cerebellum malformed, hydrocephalus related condition.
What is Encephalitis?
Inflammation of brain due to viral infection.
What is FASD?
Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, brain damage, facial deformities, heart, liver, kidney defects. Issues with learning, attention, memory, problem solving.
What is hydrocephalus?
Increase in CSF, increase pressure in brain, damage optic nerve, hearing loss due to shunt placement.
What is CMV?
Cytomegalovirus, common virus affecting all ages, growth problems, brain, liver, spleen, lung problems.
What is Rubella?
Measles, affecting skin and lymph nodes, cause by virus transmitted through nose or through pregnancy.
What is Premature birth?
Birth before 37 week of gestation.
What are common causes of acquired deaf-blindness?
TBI, acquired brain injury, ARHL, Usher syndrome, eye problems, diabetic retinopathy.
What is Usher Syndrome? What are the types of hearing and vision loss?
Partial/ total hearing and vision loss worsening over time.
Sensorineural hearing loss and retinitis pigmentosa (layer of light sensitive tissue at back of eye).
What is the difference between Type 1, 2, 3 of Usher Syndrome?
Type 1 impacts balance, Type 2 greater spectrum of vision and hearing loss, Type 3 least common.
