Conclusions about instruction delivered to distance learners which are directly related to effectiveness
- Training of teachers in effective instructional strategies
- Courses should be carefully designed and developed before instruction begins
- Ideas and concepts must be visualizedwhen designing instruction
- Adequate support systems must be in place
- Interaction between instructor and students must be possible and encouraged
- Assessments must be related to specific learning outcomes
The keys to successful distance education
- Design
- Development
- Delivery
Technology which is an innovation filling a role in a market that the older technology could not fill. It then successfully moves up and eventually overturns an existing dominant technology.
Disruptive Technology

Sustaining Technology
Per Keegan, 5 main elements used to compose a comprehensive definition of DE
- Quasi Permanent separation
- Influence of an educational organization - planning, preparation of learning materials; provision of student support services
- Use of Technical Media - to unite teacher and learner; to carry the content of the course
- Provision of 2 way communication - so the student by benefit from dialogue
- Quasi Permanent absence of the learning group - people usually taught as individuals and not in groups
