- The president of Egypt Gamal Nasser wanted to remain neutral in the Cold War.
- The U.S. offers to help build a dam to modernize Egypt and the surrounding cities
- The U.S. withdraws supports because of Nasser closeness with the Soviet Union
- Nasser responds by taking control of the Suez Canal
- Israel, England, and France plan an attack on Egypt using Israel as the instigator
- U.S. forces the withdrawal
