  • Stated that U.S. is going to commit economic resources to help rebuild European economies after WW2 and prevent Communism form spreading
  • The Soviet Union saw this as a source of tension
  • US committed $12 billion, the marshall plan was a significant turn around in Europe economy.
  • US tired spreading to E. Europe

What is the historical significance Berlin Blockade?

  • 1948-9
  • The Soviet encircled the whole city and blocked sectors under allied control
  • U.S supplies resources for a year
  • The Soviet backed down, it revealed that U.S. was committed to help Europe and not retreat in Isolationism
  • For Americans it was a quick shift of Germany is our enemy to Soviets are the new enemy and Germany is on our side
  • The importance is after Soviets focus on the East side they control and emerges as a division in Germany

What is the historical significance Berlin Wall?

  • 1961
  • Ground zero of Cold War
  • The way it was it carved out territory was similar to Berlin Conference, it did not local already existing territories
  • People from the East were fleeing the West rapidly and to contain the people build a wall to contain them
  • The Berlin wall reaffirmed the divide that already existed
  • Showed apposing side of the Enlightenment
