Orthotic
An appliance used to support align prevent or correct deformities
Fecal Impaction
The blockage of the bowel by a mass of hard feces
Spasticity
Increased tightness in muscle causing it to resist stretching and movement
Closed bed
A bed made after a patient leaves. The top is closed so it will stay clean until a new patient is assigned to the unit.
Draw sheet
A sheet made of plastic or cotton placed crosswise in the middle of the bed over the bottom sheet to protect the bedding from patients discharges and to soften the bed
Mitered corner
Method of tucking in the corners of bed linens that keeps them neat and stretched tightly
Surgical bed
Left at stretcher height and covers fan folded over to far side

The most common form of dementia in which nerve cells in the brain degenerate causing a progressive loss of mental function

A general term given to symptoms associated with chronic organic decline of mental ability

Talking about past experiences especially pleasant ones
Validation therapy
Techniques used to help patients with cognitive impairment feel dignity and worth by having their feelings and memories acknowledged
Advance directive
A patients prewritten instructions regarding life prolonging measures such as resuscitation and feeding tubes
