What is a system?

What is a health system

What is public health?
The science and art of preventing illness and promoting health through the organised efforts of society
What are some of the public health system linkages with public health?
- workforce
- Finance

What is the definition of the public health workforce?
Hard to define as it involves many different fields
- there are direct and indirect contributors (eg teachers)
What was the Delphi study?
a study that identified 37 agreed vital public health functions
- results came from public health professionals
What frameworks and groups control the focus of research?
- NPHP (National public health partnerships)
- ANAPHI
- PHILENetwork
What is demand for public health dependent on?
- less sensitive to the size of the population, and more dependent on the nature and organisation of public health services
- thus can be influenced by new policy directions

They will provide $932.5 mill over 9 years (2009/10)

- setting based interventions in pre-schools ect
- interventions focusing on poor nutrition ect
- social matrketing amied at tobacco & obesity
- enabiling infulstrucure to mointor
What does public health, governance involve?
ensuring strategic policy frameworks exist and are combined with effective oversight, coalition building, regulation, attention to system-design and accountability
Who is involved in public health governance?
- state & terrories - primary responsibility
- local government - role in planning, delivery and monitoring public health
- commonwealth government - overall eg priority setting
