recovery
noun – the process of getting better after an illness, injury etc (e.g. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery.)
in terms of
phrase – in relation to something (e.g. We try to do what is best for our customers in terms of the quality of our products.)
as if
phrase – said to show that you do not believe something is possible (e.g. He wants to get another car - as if we don’t have enough cars in the driveway already!)
determined
adj – having a strong desire to do something, so that you will not let anyone stop you (e.g. She will get the job she wants - she’s a very determined person.)
relieve
v – to reduce someone’s pain or unpleasant feelings (e.g. Drugs helped to relieve the pain.)
embrace
v – 1: hug / 2: formal to eagerly accept a new idea, opinion, religion etc (e.g. We hope these regions will embrace democratic reforms.)
comfort
v/n – a feeling of being physically relaxed and satisfied, so that nothing is hurting you (e.g. She comforted herself with the thought that it would soon be spring.)
hypothetical
adj – based on a situation that is not real, but that might happen (e.g. This is all very hypothetical but supposing Jackie got the job, how would that affect you?)
rely on (st) (sb)
phr v – to trust or depend on someone or something to do what you need or expect them to do (e.g. Many working women rely on relatives to help take care of their children.)
pick (st) up
phr v – to lift something or someone up (e.g. The phone rang and I picked it up.)
pick (sb) up
phr v – to let someone get into your car, boat etc and take them somewhere (e.g. The survivors were picked up by fishing boats from nearby villages.)
