Passion
The suffering of Christ leading up to his death.
Resurrection
The bodily rising of Christ from the dead, as he foretold, on the third day after his death on the cross and burial in the tomb.
Crucifixion
A form of execution in which the prisoner is nailed to a wooden fixture.
Last Supper
The passover meal Christ and His apostles shared in before His arrest. Christ instituted the sacrament of communion.
Agony in the Garden
The mental, moral, and physical suffering experienced by Jesus before his passion. He asked that He might not die but for the Father’s will be done.
Ascension
40 days after his resurrection, the entry of Christ’s humanity into heaven.
Kenosis
Greek for “emptying” it refers to Christ having emptied himself by becoming man.
Stations of the Cross
The practice of meditating on Christ’s suffering in his paschal mystery.
Suffering Servant
Fulfillment of Isaiah 53, suffered and died on the cross to gain redemption of humanity
Transfiguration
The divine glory of Christ manifested to St. Peter and John on Mt. Tabor.
