Assyrians
The peoplle of Assyria who destroyed the kingdom of Israel.
Ark of the Covenant
An ornate box that held the Ten Commandments, the rod of Aaron, and manna.
Canaan
The land of the Canaanites, which was to become the Promised Land.
Christ
Greek for “anointed.” This is used to reference Jesus because he perfectly exemplified the role of Priest, Prophet, and King.
Circumcision
The sign of God’s covenant with Abraham.
Communion
The unity of the faithful as one body of Christ; also referred to as the Eucharist.
Consecration
The act of separating someone or something apart as holy and devoted for a particular purpose. Isrealite kings of the OT were consecrated with sacred oil. Also the consecration of bread and wine at Mass.
Covenant
A solemn agreement between people or between God and man made by swearing an oath before God and involving mutual commitments and promises.
Creation
God bringing forth the Universe out of nothing.
Devil
(Satan). A fallen angel who sinned against God by refusing to accept his reign.
Deuteronomy
The fifth book of the Bible; contains the set of laws given to the Israelites by God.
Exodus
Greek for “going out.” Liberation of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt into the Promised Land by God’s saving acts.
Faith
The theological virtue in which one believes in all God has revealed.
