What does the research by Kimberly Hoang- Dealing in desire illustrate

A

It used to answer the question of does empirical research always align with personal thoughts and claims
Claims form the research were people involved in sex work, do it because they have to or they have no other source of income

Empirical research showed that these jobs give them hope for better life, is not as monotonous and demanding as manual labour in factory, this is more pleasurable as it meets their needs, so much so that they are willing to risk jail time since such work is illegal in Vietnam

What did Weber mean when he said how can an atheist and a Catholic study religion together, despite their different ideologies on the existence of God

A

Weber meant that despite the different viewpoints, an empirical approach to research, can be used where the atheist moved and put aside the notion of lack of existence of God on the Catholic side, his believe in existence of God, when this is done, they can evaluate and study religion for what it is, that’s what it isn’t or should be based on their own moral judgments

Example they could study the history of developmental the Bible. The relationships between people is in churches, tickled, cross culturally analyze religiosity

A

Regardless of if it’s sociologists is pro-choice or pro-life, your morals, personal stance on the issue should not factor into their research they should see a division between moral judgments and empirical truths.
as Weber said, follow the empirical truths. Disregard, personal thoughts
Sociology should approach research with moral indifference order to understand the subjective truths

A

Sociology should I approach study with an open mind brackets in their morals and political judgments and study social phenomenon for what is actually observed during the research process.
This is a skill that is necessary for social research, even though it may be difficult for sociologists to completely disregard, and let go of your own way or judgments

A

Characteristic that differs from subject to subject from time to time
For example, in the research study about why do dogs wag their tail the variables could be what time, what situation, how often do they want you to?

20
Q

What type of research is used to explain an aspect of the sociological wall that cannot be translated into numerical perspective

A

Qualitative

21
Q

In dealing with desire, what was the research method that was used by Kimberly and why do you think this was necessary

A

A qualitative approach was used
this was necessary because the nature of the study was and could not be translated into quantitative form
She was studying, illegal, sex workers and trying to get them to fill out survey some questions about why they choose to do illegal work instead of working in factories would not have been a suitable way to understand the emotional impact. While using the qualitative method give her the opportunity to understand them from a personal point of you And to build a relationship with them that was necessary to get the information that was needed to understand their situation and to Answer her research question.
