aim- improve aus milk quality and quality by controlling mastitis
why was countdown downunder started (4)?
1998 EU BMCC>400,000 cells/ml not fit for human consumption
reduce mastitis
improve profit
protect and maintain export markets
why worry about BMCC (4)?
increased BMCC decreases quality decreases profitability
animal welfare - indicative sign of practice - high BMCC= bad practice reduces production
why would there be a loss of genetic gain associated with mastitis?
high producers are at greater risk, would be culling the best performers

BMCC < 400,000 cells/ml
