74 married couples got given a life changes questionnaire and a daily hassles/uplifts scale. No relationship between life changes and illness but a positive correlation between daily hassles and health problems

The relationship between daily hassles and depression in 1st year psychology students. Got given HSUP and Depression scale to complete to identify any depressive symptoms that might be linked to hassles, 41% students suffered depressive symptoms. Positive correlation between daily hassles and depressive symptoms

What did Gervais investigate?

A

Nurse kept diary of their hassles and uplifts at work for a month, asked to rate their performance. Hassles found to increase job strain and decrease performance. Uplifts counteracted the negative effects and improved the performance on the job
