Cytoplasmic Receptors And Steroid Hormone Flashcards
Outline steroid hormone action;
Steroid hormone pass through plasma memebrane and initiate their actions by binding to cytoplasmic receptors
Where do steioid hormones rented and bind ?
Enter through cell membrane and bind to receptors inside of the target cell
Steps included in steroid hormone action;
1) entry of hormone into the cell
2) binding of hormone to specific cytoplasmic receptor
3) transfer of hormone-receptor complex to nucleus
4) binding of hormone-receptor complex to genome
5) increase in mRNA levels for specific proteins
6) new proteins- altered cellular function
Where is the ligand-receptor complex carried into?
Through the plasma membrane into the cytoplasm of the cell
What are symptoms of Graves’ disease?
- enlarged Thyroid gland
- protraction of eyeballs
- rapid heartbeat
- nervous excitability
Where are carbohydrates stored?
In liver and muscle cells
What is the role of glucagon?
Stimulates the synthesis of glucose from glycerol and amino acids
What is Job of human erythrocytes?
Use glucose as metabolic fuel
What’s the job of NADH?
- keeps glutathione reduced
- protects cell membrane from oxidation
What are the 3 irreversible reactions of glycolysis?
1) glucose+ATP ————> glucose-6-phosphate+ADP
2) fructose-6-phosphate+ATP——-> phosphocructase 1, 6-bisphosphate + ADP
3) phosphornolpyruvage + ADP——> pyruvate + ATP
Where is pyruvate carboxylase located?
Located in mitochondria
Pyruvate in Cytosol enters mitochondria
